Follensby Pond: context and reaction

A deal for the Follensby Pond acquisition has been sought by environmental groups, paddlers and hikers for a long time. Martha Foley talked with Phil Brown, editor of the Adirondack Explorer magazine, about the significance of the purchase, and local reaction. Historic Follensby auction draws hundreds to Tupper Lake

You never really know what the North Country's big events of the summer will be. This year, hands down, the attention grabbers were a couple of big auctions. Fox Island, near Cape Vincent, sold over the weekend for $3.78 million to New Jersey resident Vance Wilson. In Tupper Lake, more than four hundred buyers turned out for the sale of antiques and other treasures from Follensby Park, one of the Adirondacks' most extravagant, private great camps.
