Seizure may have led to drowning of Paul Smith's student

State policy say an autopsy performed on a Paul Smith's College student yesterday found the young man drowned in Lower St. Regis Lake after apparently suffering a seizure.

Nicolas Pendl, age 19 from Allegany, New York, was known to suffer from a "seizure disorder," according to police. He was found Tuesday afternoon in the water a short distance from one of the school's dormitories in Franklin County, New York.  Go to full article

Missile defense site meeting tonight in Carthage

A meeting will be held tonight at the Carthage High School to talk about the possibility of building a missile defense site at Fort Drum.

The meeting will begin at 6 pm. Richard Lehner, a Missile Defense Agency spokesman, told the Watertown Daily Times that the three-hour session is an opportunity to "interact with people who are doing the environmental impact statement."  Go to full article

More charges expected against Amish girls' kidnappers

More charges are expected this week against a St. Lawrence county couple who allegedly kidnapped two Amish girls. Police gathered evidence Sunday at the Hermon, NY, home of 39 year-old Stephen Howells II and 25 year-old Nicole Vaisey. Hermon is about a dozen miles south of Canton.

Howells and Vaisey were arrested Friday night following a massive search and investigation. They are charged with 1st degree kidnapping with intent to harm the two Amish girls, ages 6 and 12. They're in St. Lawrence County jail without bail.

The abduction happened Wednesday evening when the girls came out to attend to their family's roadside vegetable stand. The girls were set free about 24 hours later. But the prosecutor in the case says that was not before they were sexually assaulted.  Go to full article
