After a rough year, Gouverneur's EJ Noble Hospital is back open for business, but still lacking in patients. Yet another NYS legislator, Brooklyn Sen. John Sampson, is arrested on corruption charges. US Sen. Chuck Schumer says if there's a new East Coast missile defense site, it should be in New York.

The Vermont legislature deals with some major issues as it winds down its session, including end-of-life choices, legalized marijuana, and driver's licenses for migrant workers. A new report finds most upstate cities are losing jobs to the suburbs.

NY counties push "no new mandates" law

Counties across the state are declaring a "Mayday" for Mandate Relief.

County leaders across New York are using the month of May to press state lawmakers to introduce and pass legislation that would prevent new unfunded mandates.  Go to full article

Plattsburgh's Nova Bus plant wins $148m contract

Nova Bus in Plattsburgh has won another big contract to assemble 300 new vehicles for Chicago's Transit Authority. That's according to an announcement yesterday from Congressman Bill Owens.

The deal will bring the Canadian company roughly $148 million in new business.  Go to full article

Administration tries to axe teachers' union lawsuit

New York is trying to get a lawsuit by the state's largest teachers' union tossed out of court.

New York State United Teachers filed a lawsuit earlier this year, claiming that the state's tax cap has created inequities between wealthy and poor districts.  Go to full article
