Soldiers & Wives Reflect on Battle

Tenth Mountain Division soldiers who fought in Operation Anaconda in Afghanistan have begun a two week leave after returning to Fort Drum last week. Fort Drum Soldiers Welcomed Home, Decorated With Ribbons

In early March, soldiers from Fort Drum fought a pitched battle at Shah-I-Khot in Afghanistan. 8 American soldiers died in the fighting. None of those men were based in the North Country. But more than 20 Fort Drum soldiers were injured. Now, the troops who took part in Operation Anaconda are coming home. They're being welcomed by eager families - and recognized for brave service. Proud Moment at Fort Drum: Soldiers Return from Afghanistan

On Thursday, officials at Fort Drum welcomed home hundreds of soldiers who fought in Afghanistan. Brigadier General Thomas Goedkoop is an assistant commander with the 10th Mountain Division.
