Aftermath
If you are like me, this week's special election has left you with a crippling political hangover. All voices sound a little shriller and you find yourself listening for the hidden meaning in everything--even the weather report, or a request to pass the salt. You bark when answering the phone, and don't stop to correct your typos when making stream of consciousness comments on the blogs of imagined foes. Or maybe that's just me. But the tone has been pretty angry, and anger takes its toll.
Three ways to control your temper and anger:
- Say ta'awuz (ask for protection from the devil)
- Do wudu (ritual cleansing) or drink water
- Lie down on the floor
I can attest to the effectiveness of number three. I can no longer see the monitor, or reach the keyboard.

Luv #3 and the following paragraph. Oh man, I know how you feel!

You may have saved a marriage today... during a lull in a knock-down-drag out with my husband, I stumbled on your suggestions on how not to stay angry. It is impossible to fight while trying to lie down and drink water at the same time... plus, my Arabic pronunciation sucks. Made my day.

This election was like french kissing a light socket.
nice - thanks, Laurena
I get angry every day when I listen to news reports that are supposedly reporting facts. We are a very impatient country, and expect complete reversal of 8 years in 8 months. There is no voice of reason out there. Maybe you are responding to the same thing. \Nana
I, too, become furious at the "news" which is not "news" and the arrogance of those reporting it. I remember the Dalai lama & his compassion "through violence you may "solve" one problem but you sow the seeds for another" & Thich Naht Hanh "people deal too much with the negative, with what is wrong. Why not try to see positive things to get in touch with those things and make them bloom"
