What's Happenin', CC?
It's impossible not to play and think about Parliament's song, "Chocolate City", these days. As P-E Obama goes about filling in his cabinet, for the record, here's the Administration laid out by George "The Funk" Clinton in 1975:
President Mohammed Ali
Right Reverend Dr. Frederick J. Eikerenkoetter II, Secretary of the Treasury
Richard Pryor, Minister of Education
Stevie Wonder, Secretary of Fine Arts
Aretha Franklin, The First Lady
Anyway, here's a great 1998 article in the Washington Post that lays out the cultural history of one funky song.

Thanks David for clearing up the identity of "Reverend Ike". I'm ashamed to admit that I've always thought that it was Ike Turner, which always caused me to think, after hearing him named in the song, "who in their right mind would appoint Ike Turner minister of the treasury?" Dr. Eikerenkoetter makes a much more plausible appointment.
"If you want pie ala-mode with ice cream on top, then listen to Reverend Ike every Sunday morning." I like it. It has pizazz.
Confession: the reason I was thinking about this song TODAY is, of course, the Yankees signing C.C. Sabathia to a record contract. You on the down stroke, CC?
Confession: I have a sinking feeling that signing CC Sabathia is a classic instance of signing a star and dooming a team. Granted, the Yanks need some starters, but I just don't think this is the way. Sabathia just seems ripe for a career-ending rotator-cuff injury or something like that.
