Any Dead Is on the One? (UPDATE w/ winner)
The Dark Star Orchestra is not just any Grateful Dead cover band. They actually recreate an entire Dead show, song by song, set by set - drums, space, and encore included - every time they play a show. You can hear them do it in person at the Mountain Music Meltdown in Saranac Lake August 9-10.
As you'll hear on the show today, you'll have a chance to win a pair of tickets if you submit a comment to this question:
What is the FUNKIEST Grateful Dead song? Not your favorite, not the one that holds a soft spot in your heart. Be disciplined. And stay true to the funk.
Submit a comment with your answer...and please include an e-mail address so I can contact you.
UPDATE: I think the tickets go to Dylan Van Cott, so he can take his Dad! Dylan, I hope you read this. Please e-mail me at david@ncpr.org, so I can get in touch with you...

In my minds ear, the absolutely funkiest Dead song has to be "The Music Never Stopped".
Who's making the call on this one anyway?
"Franklin's Tower" has got to be it!
I'd say Iko Iko is hands down funkiest. Altho, the discofied recorded version of Shakedown Street is pretty darn funky too.
Of course, funky is pretty subjective...
"Dancin in the Streets" with a long bass infused intro....
OK so it must be a song that isn't really a Dead song but they covered it and here is my vote -
It's Good Lovin'
Thanks,
Annie
From Onchiota, the answer is:
Franklin's Tower
Thanks for the tunes today and have a good week-end.
Funkiest? - Although "Music", "Dancin'" and "Franklin's" are fine choices the answer has to be "Shakedown Street"
Funky with the Dead was more a state of how the band was playing than what song. - For instance: Jack-A-Roe is not usually what you woud call funky - but there are some versions that just FUNK - (i.e. from Fallout from the Phil Zone) - But my vote:
1978 - all of it
Shakedown Street has to be the funkiest Dead song in my mind. Also, the best album. (To me.)
Hope to be at the concert with my dad!
Dylan Van Cott ( age 14)
