Rep. Bill Owens supports President's move to end ban on open gays in military
In an interview with NCPR today, Rep. Bill Owens (D-Plattsburgh) was unambiguous:
"I believe it's appropriate to terminate don't ask, don't tell."
Owens, who represents Fort Drum, says he campaigned on that position last year and has been convinced by military leaders that allowing gays and lesbians to serve openly is appropriate.

A voice of reason. Refreshing.
Don't ask, don't tell is a policy derived from bigotry that should be repealed. Will Obama show leadership in pushing for its repeal? I doubt it.
Owens went to Washington, and drank the koolaid.
what are you talking about, abbw? obama has already been pushing for repeal! and as for owens, it's great that he's taken such a clear stand against bigotry. it would be quite the different story if hoffman had won.
A state of the union mention. We'll see how far it goes.
"A state of the union mention. We'll see how far it goes"
Well, there's that. And open support from the Secretary of Defense. And open support from the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. And open support from the iconic Colin Powell. And a huge, choreographed rollout of the policy.
Other than that, though, BO's done absolutely nothing on this.
