The perfect Election 09 headline
This from The Hill newspaper:
GOP gains momentum, Dems gain House seat
That sums it up, right? Team Obama will have to manage some unhappiness over the way the NJ and VA governor's races went. But when the dust settles, he has one more dependable vote in the House in Rep. Bill Owens. How dependable?
Well, that's the fun part.

Pretty accurate. 2 Governors races lost, 1 Congressional seat gained. Kind of a toss up really isn't it?
Another headline might be, "3rd party candidate topples GOP and nearly defeats Democrat!!!". A minor setback. THe fight has only just begun.
Congratulations to our new congressman Bill Owens, the first Democrat to be elected to the House of Representatives in the last 150 years.
I've lived in this district for more than 50 years and given that experience I believe this would not have happened if Doug Hoffman did not enter this race. Dede Scozzafava would have won going away because this district is by and large really moderate. On the other hand if the race was between Hoffman and Owens I believe Owens would have still won, again because this district is by and large really moderate.
I am proud of my neighbors in the whole district that rejected outsiders coming into our district - not physically, but over the right wing talk radio airwaves. Glen Beck, Mark Levin, Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh's constant barrage and their tactics did not work in 2008, it did not work in 2009 and I hope that it won't work in the future.
Congratulations to Mr. Owens. Job well done.
I wonder now, if VP Biden should have gone to NJ and Virginia instead of Pres. Obama. The VP's Watertown trip, along with the other outside influences, seemed to push Mr. Owens over the top.
Congratulations again.
Owens didn't win becuase od stupid Biden. No one likes Biden. Owens won becuase Dede dropped out and people do not want a congressman that makes personal decisions his.
I like Biden.
