NYTimes: Giuiliani out for 2010
The New York Times is reporting today that former NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani will stay on the sidelines in 2010.
This obviously strengthens the Democrats' chances of holding the Governor's post next year -- but it also heightens the tension between Governor David Paterson and Attorney General Andrew Cuomo. His decision is a blow to many Republican leaders, who had viewed Mr. Giuliani as the strongest potential candidate in a year in which voter anger and anti-Albany sentiment appear to be swelling.
Contenders from both parties have been waiting for months to hear what the former mayor would decide.

Why do I feel singing a song from the Wizard of Oz? You know, the one The Munchkins sing that starts off, "ding, dong the wicked..."
Giuliani's political ambitions are dead in the water. Sweetness. Vermont was my option had he won.
A Paterson - Cuomo race? In a Noo Yock minute.
Brian,
you really need to stop presenting your opinion and so called "conventional widsom" as facts. That's not the NPR way. Giuliani being out of the race does not "obviously strengthen the Democrats' chances of holding the Governor's post next year".
Don't be fooled by the poll results. Early polls showed Giuliani way ahead in the race for the GOP nomination and then when people actually voted Giuiani did terrible. He's a bit of a paper tiger. He was a huge supporter of Bush and there are numerous clips of him saying how great he thought Bush and his policies were. Bush is very unpopular in New York so that could hurt him a lot.
Also would the Conservative Party support him? Chairman Mike Long is no fan of Giulani so it's possible it won't in which case it could be difficult for him to win even against Paterson.
