House in the Adirondacks

The latest episode of the popular Fox TV medical drama "House" is supposedly set in the Adirondacks.

The lead character, sort of an acerbic Sherlock Holmes MD, travels to the 'Dacks for a medical conference and a muddled romance.

Sadly, as is often the case, the episode is filmed...elsewhere.

That ain't Lake George looking great in the background. That's Lake Arrowhead, California. Sigh.

i don't think you should feel too bad that they did the filming elsewhere. like most tv shows, the production unit for house is based in l.a., and it would surely have been very expensive and inconvenient to go on location in the adirondacks.

Can't do a film in the Adirondacks. People would confuse the landscape with mid-1940's Appalachia.

And then there was the movie version of Leatherstocking which was filmed in the Carolinas because they looked more like NYS than NYS does. Yeesh!

what about all these lucrative film tax credits nyc lawmakers stuffed in this year's bloated state budget? I'm sure they had the NC and upstate in general in mind when they passed those credits.

from what I understand those credits have been around for a while. As for Adirondack and North Country films I can recall a few. Part of The Good Shephard was filmed at the Great Camp Sagamore. Frozen River was filmed in Plattsburgh, Beekmantown. A soon released movie Recreator was shot primarily in Tupper Lake.

Unfortunatley Last of the Mohicans was shot in North Carolina. And A Place in the Sun was done in California.

You can't blame producers for doing things as cheaply as possible. That's why many movies and television shows are filmed and taped in Canada.
