Hoffman Camp: Scozzafava "betrayed" GOP

Here's a statement from Doug Hoffman spokesman Rob Ryan:

“This afternoon Dede Scozzafava betrayed the GOP. She endorsed a Pelosi Democrat who will spend more, tax more, and push the liberal agenda that is dragging down this nation. Doug Hoffman represents the revolution that is taking place against high taxes. Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats are desperate. They are throwing everything they have at us but we’re back. The voters now know what Dede Scozzafava believes in—the liberal agenda of Nancy Pelosi.”

Brian, you chastised posters for leaving comments that did not reflect well reasoned arguments, yet showcase a comment by Hoffman that plays the tired old Nancy Pelosi card.I think you are too shocked by the day's events to collect your thoughts.

Put bluntly, the main players in this rather Jacobean drama play by different rules than the rest of us.

They get to say whatever they want.

The rest of us? We get to react, comment, whatever.

But Doug Hoffman's spokesman isn't just another voice in the scrum.

What he says is, for lack of a better word, news.

You know the old joke about the definition of chutzpah being the kid who murders his parents and then asks for mercy from the court because he is an orphan.

And then, to switch metaphors, like in Casa Blanca, after Hoffman and his out of state backers and funders all but literally eviserated DeDe, they are "shocked, I tell you shocked" that she chooses to hit back a bit.

Hoffman pulling away in the polls and calling it like it is in NY23

Too bad for voters in the 23rd. Your opportunity to vote for one of the three candidates was taken away from you by conservatives through well-financed lies.

She betrayed the GOP? Get real. More like they totally abandoned her. I don't blame her. The GOP is flaming out. Too bad. Maybe they'll hold this seat this time but there's another election next year and in the long run they're shooting themselves in the foot.

Where is the comment from Hoffman instead of his senior communications advisor? Another campaign run by elitists.

I agree that the Pelosi comments are getting old and as of yet, I haven't heard or read where Pelosi has said anything about this race.

Hoffman seems out of touch and uninvolved directly in this campaign. He can't personally comment on the Scozzafava endorsement and he didn't debate in Plattsburgh. Signs of things to come???

I give Scozzafava a lot of credit for bucking the GOP and doing what she feels is right for the people that live in the 11 counties of the 23rd district.

Hoffman is always negative. His entire campaign has been negative. Who wants that in their representative?

I agree with Jim. We are witnessing the last throws of the GOP.
Dede is being true to her principles.
Hoffman has become a puppet.

It looks like Dede went the maverick route, not playing party politics. She endorsed the candidate that would be best for the 23rd district, in her opinion. Isn't that more of what we need?

Somehow it's OK for GOP power brokers to not endorse their party's candidate, but Dede is the spawn of the devil for not endorsing a third party candidate. Dede will be another moderate welcomed into the big tent of the Democratic party.

no one should ever feel sorry for dede. in reality, she nearly jumped ship over the summer and was, in fact, courted by the dems. her owens endorsement just makes all this official. in this wacky business, now that she is a democrat, will she run in the september primary to possibly defeat the man that she is supporting today?

With all due respect to Scozzafava, it would have been hypocritical of her to support Hoffman. Owens' platform is much more familiar to Dede.

I will still vote for Dede. I rather chuck my vote than cast my ballot Owens of Hoffman the spoiler

Good for Dede. Although I tend to vote in a particular direction I always vote my conscience and I don't necessarily vote the party line. So, when I meet a politician that is willing to do that, step outside of the party line, which is so rare today, I can't help but have respect for her... or him. I think she has shown courage. This is a 23rd Congressional District voter from Saranac Lake speaking.

Shame on the NY GOP who sat back and allowed National GOP and ultra conservative screwballs attack Dede.
Double shame on the former GOP governor whose name should never again be mentioned for running for anything anywhere.
