Doug Hoffman's letter
Here is the letter, posted originally on Doug Hoffman's website:
Dear Fellow Conservative,
As evidence surfaces, we find out that reported results from election night were far from accurate. ACORN and the unions did their best to try and sway the results to Obamacare supporter Bill Owens.
I was forced to concede after receiving two pieces of grim news - - down 5,335 votes with 93 percent of the vote counted on election night - and barely won my stronghold in Oswego County.
On Election Night, the information we received was far different from what we received this week!
Rest assured, they will not succeed, and I am therefore revoking my statement of concession.
That is why I am writing you today.
Recent developments leave me to wonder who is scheming behind closed doors, twisting arms and stealing elections from the voters of NY-23.
I'm sure you are as dismayed as I am to learn of the mischief that took place in Oswego and neighboring counties. We know this would not be the first time for the ACORN faithful to tamper with democracy.
Now it's time to actually count every legal ballot and I need your help to ensure the people of NY-23 get the Congressman THEY ELECTED. Please donate now to help me ensure every vote is counted!
A recanvassing in the 11-county district shows Owens' lead has narrowed to 3,026. In Oswego County, I was reported to lead by only 500 votes with 93 percent of the vote counted election night, but inspectors found I actually won by 1,748 votes
Let’s force them keep this recanvassing active! Let’s give this election a chance to end differently!
Oswego County elections officials blame the mistakes on "chaos" in their call-in center that included a phone system foul-up, and on inspectors who read numbers incorrectly when phoning in results. This sounds like a tactic right from the ACORN playbook.
The district's second biggest voter turnout was in Jefferson County, where I had also benefited from a turnaround since election night, gaining another 700 votes. Owens led by 300 votes on the final election night tally, but after recanvassing, I'm now leading by 424 votes.
Jerry Eaton, the Republican elections commissioner for Jefferson County, said inspectors found a problem in four districts where my vote total was mistakenly entered as zero.
The new vote totals mean the race will be decided by absentee ballots, of which the state Board of Elections distributed about 10,200.
The people of NY-23 deserve to have their ballots counted properly, but we can't let ACORN or the unions keep that from happening. They have more lawyers and more experience tampering with democracy.
State Board of Elections Communications Director John Conklin said the state sent a letter to the House Clerk last week explaining that no winner had been determined in the 23rd District.
Now it's time to actually count every legal ballot and I need your help to ensure the people of NY-23 get the Congressman THEY ELECTED. Please donate now to help me ensure every vote is counted!
We need to make sure that fair elections are a reality in NY-23, just like our Founding Fathers envisioned. So long as we remain the "land of the free," we MUST ensure every vote is counted.
Help us today so we may be the first of many conservative victories during the Obama Regime.
Yours in Freedom,
Doug HoffmanLabels: election09

Politicans learned years ago that "red meat" stuff in fund-raising letters intended for the faithful inevitably reach journalists and the public.
(this is true of both parties)
Obviously this stuff works and they (the pros) don't worry too much about what non-believers think about what they write.
Hoffman makes these accusations against unions/Acorn, yet he doesn't offer any shred of proof.
It's just wild speculation on his part meant to incite the passions of the far right.
Doug Hoffman's msg accomplishes a few things.
By using language that his base loves and readily identifies with, "Obamacare, ACORN and unions tampering with Democracy, land of the free, Founding Fathers" he uses words and phrases that get the base all astir and flooding his mailbox with $$.
For those who do not desire to see Hoffman represent the 23rd, his language is a complete negative and a big turnoff. A barrier to ever bridging the divide between voters in this district.
To be honest, as one who is an Owens supporter, were the situation reversed would we be looking for complaints of vote rigging from our candidate? Would we be reading things from the Owens camp such as, "send $$ to help keep this FOX News backed, Beck loving carpetbagger from gaining the House by trickery and fraud?"
All too sadly, I think so. Appeals to the base, and the baser instinct of our better natures are practiced by both parties.
Hang tight Hoffman supporters. The next vote is now less that 12 months away.
Looks like gouverneurtimes.com has upped the ante this afternoon.
Maybe I'm old school but I think that if you're going to publicly accuse someone of committing felonies, you should provide a little evidence.
At this point Doug Hoffman is hurting his future chances. My own theory is that part of what happened on election day is that voters had some second thoughts at the last minute. The HOffman campaign, by their own admission was dead in the water until the Club of Growth came along. At that point Hoffman became a political product, a creation of the media. At the end, voters felt that there was a lack of substance and the undecided vote broke for Owens. Doug Hoffman's recent actions only confirm the doubt voters had at the end of the campaign.
That is a serious allegation. Can ACORN sue Hoffman for defamation or slander if it turns out he has no proof?
NCPR aired a brief clip this morning where the Jefferson County Republican Elections Commissioner stated that it was the DEMOCRATIC Commissioner who discovered the human error that hurt Owens and helped Hoffman. If there's a grand conspiracy, it's a pretty poorly executed one. Maybe that's why Hoffman has no evidence to back up his borderline defamatory claims.
How sad and shameless. You have to wonder what outside group wrote this for him? You know he did not write it. He is a man who can barely string two sentences together.
I think the goal is to hold the 23rd District hostage and keep us from having a representative in congress for as long as possible knowing full well that Owens is the winner.
The people who live here never were the priority of Hoffman or the groups that backed him. Never. It was about ideologies. Shame on the Conservative Party.
yup, this certainly sounds like Northern New York State. Most people are already on some sort of government assistance and as long as the left keeps pushing for more government handouts, they are the first ones in line.
Anon:November 21, 2009 4:49 PM.
LOL. You are as clueless about the North Country as Hoffman and the outside groups that backed him.
You will find the conservative road a lot easier in the South and Western States where all the Welfare Red States make up your base. You know, all those States that take more from the Government than they give and then talk about pork barrelling and deficits. You guys are too funny. Thanks for the laughs.. Keep them coming.
November 21, 2009 4:49 PM
For the record, the people here work hard, and play hard. Republicans, Democrats, Conservatives, all of us. We agree to disagree on some things, but we would help anybody we could anytime. You won't find a better people anywhere.
I,ve lived here in the North Country for many many years ... and you think that everybody will help anyone whenever they could? Look around you .. look around the neighborhoods ..the only one helping anyone is government money (from others ) helping the depressed area. And you are right about the South too..just look at Louisiana and the $100 million they are going to get because their Senator voted for the Health bill ! I didn't say it was just Northern New York, but, when are people supposed to start taking care of themselves and not worry about the government ( which is everyone else's money)? Where is the people's personal pride ?

Dear Anon., you insult the people of this region when stating that the reason they need government help is because they have no personal pride.
Attacking the motivations of people on government assistance is more of that red meat stuff that the conservative base likes to throw around. The kind of misinformation and snide insults of others that the base understands and then repeats as Gospel. Such as you just did.
Most of the millions who once had jobs in this country (thank you "W" for those wonderful eight years of prosperity and growth -NOT!) paid taxes and unemployment insurance/social security insurance.
So if you are unemployed, the government has a program to help.
If you become disabled and not able to work, whether for a short period of time or for life, the government has a program to help.
If you are unable to work because there are no jobs, or what jobs there are do not pay a working wage, the government has a program to help.
If you are just some lazy, poolside lounging slob, and you think you are going to get a government program to help you out when times are bad...good luck unless you happen to be a Wall Street banker.
In my life, I've known and know a multitude of people and personalities - white, black, yellow, brown, red, or any combination thereof and 99% have had "pride" and a strong desire to work. They want to work in order to support themselves and their families, but more importantly to feel that sense of dignity and self-worth that having a good job and doing a good job, provides.
Private charity, nor your next door neighbor, could come close to meeting the needs of so many.
Only the government, which conservative seem to loath, can do that function and do it in a color blind, secular fashion.
I just post this sentence above:
"If you are just some lazy, poolside lounging slob, and you think you are going to get a government program to help you out when times are bad...good luck unless you happen to be a Wall Street banker."
After reading what I wrote, while cute to those who may consider themselves my fellow travelers,
I immediately realized that I too am guilty of using a snide remark. I am wrong to portray all Wall Street Bankers in a manner that is guaranteed to wrankle or ammuse the base depending upon which base one belongs to.
My bad.
The final results need to be accurate and open. Beyoind that it's time for Doug to relaize he wass a poor candidate at best (still the best choice of the 3 IMO) and go back to his former life. After a while you just look stupid slamming oyur head agaisnt a wall.

Get some coffee into you.
Bret4207, be careful. We can't give these Hollywood elitists any more fodder.
You wrote - Doug was a 'poor' candidate" at best, but in your opinion he was the 'best' choice of the 3.
So I ask you, were the other two borderline psychotic? Secret Scientologists? High School drop-outs?
You then present the mental picture of this poor (but best?) candidate as stupidly banging his head against the wall (BTW, an annoyance method used at GITMO).
You're not doing my Conservative Party, nor your own argument, very much good in these comments.
You're not one of those squirrels from HAZEL-NUT (militant spinoff of ACORN)are you?.
FOX News and I are sniffing around for those varmints.
How about someone offering some concrete evidence that Obama or the Democrats are doing anything positive. And I did say concrete evidence. They have had control for almost a year and what , exactly, have they done? There is now way this country can afford such a high deficit, especially when so many people are out of work. I'm not bashing them, I would just like to see something positive. And get over the Bush bashing ..it's time for Obama to take ownership of what he is doing.
All this government money being spent (our money) and everything keeps getting worse. Look at Massena, Potsdam, Ogdensburg, Malone ...businesses are closing..people are out of work ... empty buildings all over. Where is the stimulus ? Where are the job creations ? Yet, rather than cut back on expenses, electric companies are raising fees, the refuse collection are raising tipping fees...where does it all stop ? When does it slow down ?

I for one am outraged.
Obama makes lies, Reid repeats them, and Pelosi claims that she was never told about what Obama said. The Three Stooges.
How come the damned elitist, left-wing, socialist-loving media doesn't cover this?
Obama's been president for 10 months now. What's wrong with this guy? Nothing's getting better.
By this time in George Bush's first term, Cheney was able to have secret meetings with officials from the energy industries (coal, nuclear, and OIL plotting our course in Iraq,
And Dubya? He presided over the biggest and most costly attack on American soil ever...while he was busy trying to read My Pet Goat.
So Mr. Obama is a slacker by comparison.
And Frank ... I take it your one of the people ( or possibly your family) are getting some kind, or many kinds, of public assistance. If you need it because of job loss, then I agree that everyone, including the government need to help you out to get back on your feet. I back that 200%. But there are generations that live off public assistance and pull off their scams any way they can. I have relatives that do this and know what I am talking about. Explain this pride thing to me again ..I have a hard time following that arguement since the
reality does not support it.
Obama is too busy traveling the world, entertaining and still campaigning. He has not made one good decision..or any decision for that matter. When is he going to be a leader? I hope Pelosi and Redi and many more get voted out next year. This country does need change .. but we need to change out a majority of the politicians and put people in that actually represent Americans and not go along with political pressures of Washington. They need to take a [ay cut and should be included in the new Health care if they pass it. There also needs to be a set number of terms that they can serve. There are too many life long senators and representatives.
Somewhat way off topic on this thread, but here goes:
I have relatives that pull scams anyway they can to get $$ from our government.
I have an uncle who works as a high level defense contractor and vice-president for Halliburton. He got my cousin a top ranked job at KBR.
My sister-in-law works as a top executive at GoldmanSachs.
And my grandmother is a Wallstreet executive. She has made billions investing from her bed.
They are always telling me about the scams that they have pulled off to keep the taxpayer dollars flowing in.
They have help accomplishing these rip-offs from within and outside of the government.
And they have been doing this for generations.
Very insightful of you.
May I recommend you do some research as to the percentage of $$ spent on "welfare" for the poor and "welfare" for the rich.
I couldn't agree with you more. But it doesn't make it right. Are you supporting everyone scam anywhere ... anytime ,,, because it is the American way ?
Frank, if they tell you "everything" and you apparently don't have a problem with this scamming, maybe you should listen to them more and get on the high end of it instead of being on the low end. If you have all these relatives in high places making "billions", then maybe you should talk with them more often.

Dear Anonymous -
I also have a second-cousin who works for Eric Prince (third in command) at Blackwater.
I know my place. Don't rock the boat...just metioning these people anonymously is very dangerous for me. GITMO is not my idea of a teaparty.
Plus, I get a tithe of 10% of
their scammings. That sooths my conscience very nicely.
Now, as far as being against all of this, it has been the American way going all the way back to
Vanderbilt, Carnegie, Rockefeller and other tycoons of the Golden Age of "Robber Baron" capitalism.
As I said, it goes back generations.
Get with the flow man or be left behind with the tired and huddled masses, the dregs and poor of our society.
Hey Frank..You've got to be kidding...10% kickback..hahahaha
Speaking of the dregs and the poor of society ... I believe you do know what you are talking about...and I believe you do know your place..and it's not with any of them people, it's where you are right now.
Over my many years I have made ties, affiliations, connections, contacts, associates, friends and dear friends with people from all walks of life and from every social station, race and religion
From dregs to riches.
Where do you fit in, oh judge my judge?
OK, I'm not that magnanimous.
I do prefer hanging with the wealthy. They smell better.
Are you from that class or from the great unwashed?

Well, you have quite an accomplished life. As long as you are satisfied in your mind that you have done right and treated people well .. . there is only one person that can truly judge you. I wish you luck.
Because they are wealthy they smell better ? Well, you just showed your true colors. Must be everything else you have said was all just a story..
I know see that you are not truly worthy of any more responses. You and your "wealthy, smelly" bunch. hahaha
FOX News and I are full of stories.
So is Doug Hoffman's letter...full of "stories."
I will not be condemned to political irrelevance because of my stories.
And I'm not running the risk of committing mail fraud with my stories.
Lastly, my good friend Doug, may be slandering ACORN, when he should be going after HAZEL-NUTS.
I warned him, but he wouldn't listen to my counsel. In fact, at one meeting, he was so upset with me, that he began to perspire.
Thank godness for No. 1 Perfume by Clive Christian! $745.00 for an ounce. A little spritz to the air and Doug's panic was bearable.
If Doug doesn't stop taking talking points from Beck, he's toast for sure.
PS.
Give me your name and address. I'll have grandmamama, send you some Clive Christian for Xmas
She has stock in it.

frank gaffney's eyebrow -
you are just another typical, FOX News talking eyebrow, raised ever on high in eternal gravitas.
You think you're so damned superior just because your strike a handsome pose?
You don't even come close the rugged good looks of Dos Equis "The Most Interesting Man In the World."
And in good Mexican beer there are no lies.
You snob.
Would you consider asking your Gmamama to send my husband some No1Perfume by Clive Christian ?

Frank is actually a side show for the local circus. He says he has all these well off, well known relatives...he must be the flunky of the family that no one else will admit to being related to...
hhmmm Frank Flunky ...goes together well
This is from todays' Watertown Daily Times:
"Hoffman to decide on filing challenge
CONGRESSIONAL BID: Today is the deadline to request a recount
By JUDE SEYMOUR
TIMES STAFF WRITER
MONDAY, NOVEMBER 23, 2009
Former congressional candidate Douglas L. Hoffman said he'll decide today if his campaign will file a challenge to his Election Day defeat"
Does Doug's decision to mount a challenge depend upon how much money he's been able to bring in for that purpose?
His fund-raising letter contained false and/or dubious allegations that would appeal to his base.
If Hoffman doesn't file a challenge, what becomes of any money that the gullible sent in to this guy? Will this accountant give an accounting (and a refund) or will it go towards funding his campaign on 2010?
Isn't Hoffman asking for a " Bailout" with his fund raising ponzi scheme?
It would not be the first time he got bailed out. He left Lake Placid with a $6 million dollar debt ( $30 million in 2009 dollars), 1,600 unpaid creditors and a great big smile on his face..( maybe that is why the Conservatives picked him, he could pick up where the last set of Conservatives left the Country).
I'm not supposed to present this to the press just yet, and under threat of having Doug report my real income to the IRS this year (he does my taxes), I'm presenting the real letter Doug meant to send out a few weeks ago.
He wrote it to encourage his fantastic supporters, both local and from afar, and to offer his congratulations to his honorable opponent.
It reads:
I'm an ordinary citizen. Yes, I was in charge of the 1980 Olympics in Lake Placid, but that does not make me Hercules...Narcissus perhaps, but he was prettier.
My campaign lost in places throughout the 23rd, that I was positive we would take in a landslide.
All of the polling done by FOX News after all of that cheerleading by my anti-parochial friend, Dick Armey, showed that I was ahead by miles.
Rush Limbuagh, Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck, Bill O'Really?, and Sarah Palin convinced me I had this one "in the bag".
Little did I know they meant "teabag." Ugghhhh.
Anyway, congratulations to Bill Owens. Good luck getting anything accomplished with the marxist/communist/socialist/ACORNist sitting in our White House.
I'll be back, bigger, badder and stronger next year...and I'll be bringing Ann Coulter.
Sincerely,
cheers and what what
Douglas Hoffman
Frank- going back a ways before your eyebrow started doing your thinking-
IMO he could do the least damage. That's all that made him the best of 3 poor choices.
BTW- I just gave directions to your house to a black helicopter full of jack booted thugs. And you thought getting On-Star was good idea.....
The best of 3 poor choices? Did it feel like having to choose between boiled, broiled or fried liver in a restaurant that promised filet mignon?
PS. I had OnStar removed from my new Beamer. Don't need Blackwater tracking my movements.
Also, I've taken to hiding in a shack deep in the woods.
Call me the Unibrow-er.
