ACORN: we were not in NY-23

Following Doug Hoffman's vote tampering accusations made in this fundraising letter, I was wondering if ACORN actually did anything during the 23rd district campaign.

Spokesman Jonathan Rosen sent me this response via e-mail:

ACORN has no members, leaders or staff in NY-23 and had no involvement in the recent Congressional election there and Doug Hoffman knows it. This is a desperate attack by a sore loser.

This is a scary letter. Could be ignored except many folks will believe it. Shades of Sarah Palin and her ilk. Yikes!

I suspected that the ACORN charge was fabricated out of whole cloth - I mean, not only did they not influence the election, they weren't even there!

Hoffman shows his true colors with this letter. Hope to see it analyzed in many media venues.

Shades of Tailgunner Joe McCarthy and Father Coughlin...
Find a convenient scapegoat then fan flames of fear and loathing.
I'm a little surprised Doug H. didn't toss in "pro-abortion" forces with Acorn and unions into his letter. I'm quickly losing any respect I had for him before - not that I had enough to have voted for him...
Give it a break, Doug.

Jonathan Rosen's analysis is incorrect. This is not the ranting of a sore loser. This is the sales pitch of a guy trying to make a little money off of his loss by lying through his teeth.

I can explain Dougs paranoia.

Just as leftist Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) spawned the much more militant Weathermen, ACORN has spawned a little known group called HAZLE-NUTS.

They're quite squirrely. Worked their way into the voting machines in the 23rd.

FOX News and I are tracking down these nut jobs and we will reveal the names as soon as we have them.

Just one more fail in this campaign. The final one: After "un-conceding," he's going to lose by more votes after the absentees are counted than he lost by on election night.

"Mr. Owens looks like he may win this race by 3,500 votes - or about 200 better than he had after post-Election Day machine recanvassing."

It is a horrible strategy for the Conservative Party to cry " We wuz robbed." Don't they understand that the more they whine the more they galvanize those who oppose them> And the undecided looks at them and says " Wow, they are not fit to serve."
They can only lose and be their own worst enemy. Their base has already been converted. They are preaching to the choir.. This makes them look like the "woe is me" crowd and weak.
Most importantly, it is disrespectful to the people who live here to insinuate that we can be bought or are too stupid to keep from being conned by some outside group. If you have no respect for the people you want to represent, then it is well that you lost. We may be a simple people, but we are not stupid.

The Letter has sealed Hoffman's fate... I doubt we'll see him again.

Like so many Tea-Baggers, Doug Hoffman invokes the intentions of "... our founding fathers" Does he mean by that, that we should exclude all of the votes cast by women, minorities, native Americans, and non-property owning white males? I guess maybe if you exclude 75 or 80% of modern day eligible voters, he would be might be the winner.

If I was Doug Hoffman's lawyer I would be advising him to correct these demonstrably false statements pronto. Obtaining funds by means of false statements in electronic (wire) or mail solicitations can be prosecuted as mail fraud. Is Doug Hoffman any different than Lyndon Larouche? What temptation there must be in all the attention and money paid to the campaign committe as they became the darlings of the billionaire right wing which lives outside the district, but may vacation in Lake Placid.

Another bad move by a marginal candidate. As one of "Sarah Palins ilk" I'm ashamed he even ran as "conservative. We need to do better than that.
