Siena plans one more poll before election day
The NY-23 race is moving fast and it's hard to know what's really going on out there. Which is why it's great news that Siena Research Institute is planning one more survey of the race.
No details yet on the street date of the info -- but folks there say that, obviously, we'll see their numbers before Tuesday.

This is good news. It seems to me that two very suspect polls are driving both the conventional wisdom and events at this point. The fact that last weekend's poll had a "push" element where non-Hoffman voters were counted as undecided may have masked the real strength of the major party candidates. While it may fun the see things seemingly so stirred up, what is actually happening on the ground here in NNY may be more reality-based.
Scozzafava is an experienced legislator with a base in Jefferson and St. Lawrence Counties. This will be evident in tonight's debate. Furthermore, St. Lawrence County is the largest county in the region in population.
The trashing of Dede may not sit well with the region's women. Will the male vote be split?
And, are Hoffman or Owen really ready for prime time?
result of last siena poll will be:
hoffman-owens-dede in that order.
result of nov 3 poll will be the same. the new america begins nov 4.
tonight's debate, by the way, was LAME. dede sounds more like doug each day and owens sounds like owens, which is to say, devoid of opinion and substance. and NO ONE held his feet to the fire during the debate. brian tried but didn't sustain.
Whay was Hoffman MIA last night? Anyone?
Hoffman wasnt MIA---he agreed to debate DEDE early on--she refused---now that he is surging Dede wants to tear him down with 'insider politics'----watch tonight's debate. Hoffman will win the day---
regarding polling NRCC internals show Dede way behind (below 20%) and Hoffman in the lead, so do all private polls except a few Owens ones that show a tie---Dede is "tweedle--dede" and now irrelevant.
I call BS on Anon at 11:28 pm. Why? Cos wishing something doesn't make it so. Hoffman has done nothing but attack and run right-winged jabs at Dede and to some extent Bill, yet his issue positions are anathema to the district. Will he get a protest vote? Sure, he is a protest candidate but this is not some district in Alabama and I think most voters in NY-23 are smart enough to know that having a rep who works for them (like McHugh did) in a district that only 1 year ago voted for Pres. Obama, in a state which the president is very popular (and the GOP, let alone conservatives are not), is completely different from throwing caution into the wind and picking a nonentity like Hoffman. Every state has it's crazies (read: Teabaggers) but frankly, NY 23 voters are smart enough to know what makes a good rep from a gadfly. Though Dede would have been the better rep, Owens is the least offensive alternative choice for sane voters, who will decide their rep next Tuesday.
