Hoffman leading? Club for Growth thinks so.
The conservative Club for Growth, which has backed Conservative Doug Hoffman with hundreds of thousands of dollars in advertising, says a new poll puts him in the lead.
The poll of 300 likely voters, conducted October 24-25, 2009, shows Conservative Doug Hoffman at 31.3%, Democrat Bill Owens at 27.0%, Republican Dede Scozzafava at 19.7%, and 22% undecided.CFG didn't provide cross tabs or detailed methodology and their survey differs significantly from two other polls -- including the independent Siena survey -- which put Hoffman behind by a sizable margin.
The poll's margin of error is +/- 5.66%. No information was provided about any of the candidates prior to the ballot question.
From the beginning, Hoffman's backers have seen this race very differently from other pollsters and pundits, arguing that he has a clear path to victory.
Who's right? We'll find out a week from tomorrow.

If these are the folks who called me on Sat. it had a "push poll" quality to it. Dede was identified not as the republican candidate, but the "liberal republican" ticket. Dede isn't under 20%.
I also got a push-poll call over the weekend, and Scozzafava was described as "liberal Republican...", Hoffman as "Republican Independent" (the caller may even have described him as conservative as well, I can't recall). There were no modifying terms for Democrat Bill Owens, though. I told the lady I thought it was pretty obvious which angle the "poll" was taking, and declined to say who I'd be inclined to vote for.
She didn't even identify what company or organization she worked for, just launched right into the poll question.
If only these spinmeisters would just let the candidates' position papers and records stand on their own...
Sounds like a fund raising tool, nothing more. The group that is doing the polling has spent more than half a million dollars on behalf of Hoffman. It is meant to energize the base to give even more.
Club! For! Growth!
YAAAAAAAAAAY!
Classic republican ploy. If you tell a lie enough times, people start to believe it.
"Club for Growth"....
LOL. Great name. It is a club, a very private club for very wealthy men. They do believe in growth. Theirs.
