"That Jew" Schumer
A Republican running for the U.S. Senate in Arkansas is apologizing for referring to NY Senator Chuck Schumer as "that Jew" during a GOP event.
State Senator Kim Hendren has since apologized and made this statement to the Associated Press:
"I ought not to have referred to it at all," Hendren told the AP. "When I referred to him as Jewish, it wasn't because I don't like Jewish people."In an interview with an Arkansas blogger, Hendren added this:
"At the meeting I was attempting to explain that unlike Sen. Schumer, I believe in traditional values, like we used to see on 'The Andy Griffith Show,'" he explained. "I made the mistake of referring to Sen. Schumer as 'that Jew' and I should not have put it that way as this took away from what I was trying to say."

"Archie Bunker" pulled it off as dark comedy, but this type of behavior from an elected official is immature and inappropriate.
He need find a better way to express his opinion about Sen. Schumer's politics. There is plenty of fodder to be found when one examines his voting record.
I supported Sen. Schumer until I witnessed his deplorable behavior during the Supreme Court Justice confirmations. (I thank NCPR for allowing me to listen in during my ride home from work.)
Nevertheless, the aforementioned slur was not warranted.
Some people in politics try to hide how they really feel about things like race and anti-semitism. Then, in this case, sometimes that slips out. I wonder if that kind of comment will matter in Arkansas.
