GOP already sets sights on Aubertine

We all know New York's GOP is licking its wounds and regrouping after losing control of the state Senate for the first time in four decades. It's even rebuilding its web presence.

It appears whatever tack the GOP takes statewide will include picking off Democrat Darrel Aubertine. This weekend I got three e-mails in two days from the Senate Republican Campaign Committee (one of which was reprinted on right-leaning Watertown blog Political IV an hour before I got the e-mail) taking Aubertine to task for everything from woes at Lee Memorial hospital in Fulton to using NYPA $$ to balance the state budget.

Republicans are smarting from failing to win the 48th Senate seat twice - a district where they hold a huge enrollment advantage. With Democrats alone in charge of closing a $12 billion deficit this year, the GOP will tag any cuts that hurt NNYers to Aubertine. They want this seat back badly.

By 2010, Aubertine will have to show his presence in the majority party yields benefit to the North Country. You already here murmurs, even among fellow Democrats, that Aubertine hasn't been exactly sharp and demonstrative so far as Senator. Being named chairman of the Ag committee is a start, but voters will be looking for a lot more.

Politics as usual in the North Country.

Politics as usual period. No one would listen that Senator Aubertine would have no more power in the Democratic controlled Senate than he did in the Assembly.

The critique of Senator Aubertine by R. L Caravan was hardly a sign of Senator Aubertine being targeted except by two disgruntled writers living this past November over again.

PIV and Caravan are only two of the Senator's detractors who are more bitter than constructive when it comes to solutions of local problems.

I doubt it! The dems are proud of Mr. Aubertine and his work thus far.

RWiley is spot on about PIV and Caravan. Piv is rumored to be Scott Gray, Watertown legislator, who was defeated in 2004 by Aubertine 2:1. That would give him cause to be bitter and "target" Aubertine. Piv often goes on wild rants when he writes about the Senator.

Caravan and James Wright tried to help Will Barclay slim into the Senate seat by setting up Mr. Aubertine with the Lee hospital situation. Caravan failed and can't put it behind him.

The murmurs coming from some democrats are that they are dissapointed by Aubertine because he wont play the same crap partisan politics the repubs played when they were in the majority. The dems are no better than the repubs were, with the exception of Aubertine. He is the only one in the whole chamber who gives a $hi# for his district more than his party. If the republicans go after him it is a shame because he is one of the few who will work with everyone.

Scott Gray and Caravan do not speak for all Republicans. Caravan sleeps in Phoenix and work in Syracuse. He is a horn blower.

exI don't agree with anon. #1 that it is politics as usual.
Small towns in the North have done quite well with bipartisan working relations. This hatred and fear by the Republican party is something new. Just read the stuff that both of these jerks write. Darrel is a good man, but I want my old republican party back. I don't want those guys representing me.

Keep a better eye on who is involved in this. They run DANC like they run the State Office Building. A Republican play pen

This is not an issue with the local republican party. They are too busy repairing their image. This is the sole issue of PIV rumored to be 2:1 Scott Gray who uses his anonymity to slander Senator Darrel Aubertine every chance he can get. Yes, he is just bitter. Liz Benjamin has no story here.

Who cares where he sleeps? I realize that is a concern with all the Dem bloggers, particularly in Oswego County...
Face it, Darrell led these lambs to slaughter

So we have a power of two here. R.L. Caravan a carpet bagger and 2:1 Gray who is still crying. Some coalition! Let them whine while Darrel oversees the welfare of us hick farmers who will continue to cross party lines to vote for the man who will work for all of us.

He is a carpet bagger, anon. who gets his medical services from Syracuse anyway. Who cares what that crank thinks or writes just because he contributes a voice to a family rag. Much like you he considers himself a Karl Rove type political operative. But he is powerless and a local joke.

You don't even know anything about who this guy is, do you Anon.
You just posted his article without thinking.

Oswego River Rat and Farmer Brown;

If Darrell is doing such a good job why do you feel you have to defend your boy by character assassination?

I suppose by your standards Mr River Rat ("Bill" is just such a plain nickname) that these county lines are real borders, and those of us who live in Oswego County and drive to Syracuse are carpet baggers there....wow what a thought!

Is a person who lives in say, Parish, a carpet bagger when he works in Oswego and makes decisions there?

You don't even have a name, so why would you be concerned? No name no credibility in this discussion. And besides, R.L Caravan is not making any decisions, he is a carpetbagger making accusations.

If you guys would just look everything over here you would realize you are both away from the point of the discussion. The point is that Liz linked to this as a source that Senator Darrel Aubertine was being targeted by the GOP. After going through all the links adding the one to JLL written by RWiley it appears that there is only one source, the editorial by R.L. Caravan which was repeated by the person Senator Aubertine defeated, the one referred to as 2:1 Gray from the blog PIV. There was one rebuttal, the link to Jefferson's Leaning Left posted by RWiley. The reference to RWiley saying something bad and "getting" pulled does not make sense since those posts were "removed by the author". That would be RWiley. Now back to the point. Is Senator Aubertine being targeted by the GOP up there, or not? And if so, are there any other credible sources?

In a sense, certainly Senator Darrel Aubertine is or will be targeted at some point by the GOP since as a Democrat he was elected Senator in a heavily Republican District a fact which Ms. Benjamin pointed out in her article.

As a local blogger, I have found no other sources indicating that Senator is being "targeted". For us to even say that these two sources are a credible indication that he is being "targeted", is a stretch.

But is the article by R.L Caravan which was repeated on the blog PIV part of any formal GOP action? I doubt it. It is exactly what most of the comments have said. It is simply two people who are bitter from their November loss. It has only been a couple months.

In regards to the "mystery" of my comments being pulled, I was posting from a very unreliable internet source and found that I had triple posted, so I deleted two so I would not be repeating.

Anon. I am just a person who likes to comment and enter discussions.
I may not always say what you like sometimes later I don't like what I say. Actually what I said about carpetbagger was not very good and I admit it. But my credibility comes from the fact that every time you see my name, OswegoRiverRat and I have been around for awhile, on local posts I am that same human being.
When you post you have nothing, you are just like all the other anon. no personality. nothing.

And obviously he hit a nerve or two

I remember that John Aschroft as a Republican was defeated in a Red State by a dead Democrat.
But Gray being defeated as a Republican 2:1 in a Republican district has to be some kind of record, too.

At February 14, 2009 1:38 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

The issue of Gray being defeated 2:1 is an old issue that Mr. Gray won't let die. That is all that is happening locally. However, it does appear that the GOP is setting up a web site to target the Senator. That is just politics as usual and the only thing it will accomplish here is to perhaps soothe the wounds of Mr Gray and give him a glimpse of vindication.

Perhaps Scott Gray will be put against Senater Aubertine in the next round and be known as 3:1 Gray.

Unfortunately there is nothing thus far found to be illegal about the Senator's or other's participation in the rewards of wind development. It is a bipartisan issue with the people on the wind watch list you present here as being of both parties. The town board you mention being mostly Republican. The wind ethics group is also made up of both. To bring this into a discussion about Republicans targeting the Senator is weak. It would be interesting to see the Republicans attack wind development and use the Senator as an example of shady deals. Only a fool would do that.
